Give an ear to wise counsel.

Since time in memorial, most people have ended up being over whelmed, by tasks or responsibilities assigned to them by God.Whenever God gives you a task, you need to know He has prepared people that you can work with to complete the assignment. I simply don’t know, what God has assigned you to do but it is vitally Important, to be open to positive advice.
In the book of Exodus 18:17-21 So Moses’ father-in-law said to him, “The thing that you do is not good. Both you and these people who are with you will surely wear yourselves out. For this thing is too much for you; you are not able to perform it by yourself.Listen now to my voice; I will give you counsel, and God will be with you: Stand before God for the people, so that you may bring the difficulties to God. 20 And you shall teach them the statutes and the laws, and show them the way in which they must walk and the work they must do. Moreover you shall select from all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.
In the above context,we have Jethro (Moses Father-in-Law), giving Moses wise counsel in regards to sharing responsibilities with people who feared God, in leading the children of Israel to the promised land.Moses had a lot of responsibilities, which were overwhelming him.Despite of Him being a man of great honor and authority, he chose to listen to his Father’s-in-law counsel, which was full of wisdom.
Whatever situation you are in now, God has divinely appointed someone to speak to you, on how to handle that situation which seems to big to handle. God can use anybody and anything to give you instructions, in any crucial decision you want to make.

The spirit of pride is one of the main hindrance in most people’s hearts, which makes them not listen to wise counsel. They are too full of themselves and nobody can tell them anything.

One  aspect we have to learn is, listen to the counsel then discern if it’s from God. Any information where there is peace, God is in it even if the report seems difficult to comprehend, without peace stay away from it. Let’s take a sneak preview at the life of Naaman, in 2 Kings 5: 1-19 he was an honorable man and a commander of an army .him being a leper, he listened to a slave girl about a prophet who would heal him from leprosy 2 Kings 5:2-3 And the Syrians had gone out on raids, and had brought back captive a young girl from the land of Israel. She waited on Naaman’s wife. Then she said to her mistress, “If only my master were with the prophet who is in Samaria! For he would heal him of his leprosy. If Namann was full of himself, he would have brushed off the counsel from the slave girl and his servants counsel to obey the word of the prophet.
After his obedience to wash in the Jordan seven times, his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child. Most people have made wrong choices in choosing a spouse, a career, investments yet they had an opportunity to be advised on what to do.
Do you know why, presidents have Secret Advisors in running the affairs of a nation??Simple! To make decisions, any leader with the wrong advisors, a nation suffers but a leader with great advisors a nation thrives.
In 1 Kings 12:6-8 Then King Rehoboam consulted the elders who stood before his father Solomon while he still lived, and he said, “How do you advise me to answer these people?”And they spoke to him, saying, “If you will be a servant to these people today, and serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever.”But he rejected the advice which the elders had given him, and consulted the young men who had grown up with him, who stood before him. 9 And he said to them, “What advice do you give? How should we answer this people who have spoken to me, saying, ‘Lighten the yoke which your father put on us’?”We have King Rehobam, who had an option to settle for the best advice, in running the affairs of Israel but he opted to settle for advice from the wrong people. We were not born perfect,God knows what lies ahead of us.

Stop jumping into making crucial decisions, take time and evaluate, you’ve got nothing to lose in seeking out for wise counsel.

If a deal seems to good think about it, not every job offer is for you, not every potential spinster or bachelor is for you and not every school you think is great, is fit for your kids .Make it a habit to always ask God in prayer to connect you with the right people, who have the right agenda for your life.
Personally, i have gone through some experiences in my life that I know, if I had listened to some good advice, I would not have made some mistakes. Anyway, it was a learning experience that I learnt the tough way but it was worth it, at least i can write a post about listening to counsel.

Why People Don’t Listen to Advice?

  • People perceive their reality differently from the way others see it.

  • People are afraid of the unknown; they are afraid to step outside of their comfort zone.

  • People do not accept the fact that they are responsible for their success (or failures).
