Attending class by any student, one is required to be attentive and alert in order to understand the topic being taught. Students who are distracted or not attentive in class miss out a lot and when an exam is presented, they fail to tackle the questions comprehensively. All countries around the world have laid out an education system, that helps students to get to their next level as they grow. The basics we learn’t in school, help’s us to tackle a lot of issues in life. Look at it on this perceptive,you purchase an electronic gadget and it has a manual on how to operate it. The knowledge you attained in school, will help you read the manual and fix the gadget even though you didn’t attend a technical school like most of us, this also applies to our spiritual walk.
We need to be sensitive and attentive to God’s leading’s and exercise our spiritual muscles in order to operate in our realm of authority and dominion. So how do we do that??? By prayer and walking in the revelation of God’s word. On this particular post I will focus on the importance of keeping night watches through prayer. The Jewish day started with night at 6pm – 6am and then had day at 6am – 6pm. Following the roman takeover, they divided the night into four parts.
1.The Evening watch was 6pm – 9pm.
2.the midnight watch is 9pm – 12am.
3.the “rooster crow” watch is 12am – 3am.
4.the morning watch is 3am – 6am.
We are commanded to “watch!” at these times. Mark 13:35-37 mentions each night watch by name. We have the liberty to pray at any time but according to scripture, sacrificing your sleep and subjecting your spirit to be awake at these particular times of the night is very powerful and impact-full. It’s all about building our spiritual muscles and getting to know Him more at the moment, for where God is taking us. Just like any student studying for an exam, one has to be attentive in class and put some effort in his/her private studies in order to excel.
Revelations 16:15
“Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame.”
Luke 12:37
Blessed are those servants whom the master, when he comes, will find watching. Assuredly, I say to you that he will gird himself and have them sit down to eat, and will come and serve them.

Nighttime is a special time for getting insights and prophetic revelation from God: while the day witnesses of God’s care and love through creation, the night is the time when He reveals great amounts of heaven’s knowledge and new insights.
Psalm 19:2
Day unto day utters speech, And night unto night reveals knowledge.
1 Thessalonians 3:10
Night and day praying exceedingly that we may see your face and perfect what is lacking in your faith?
Matthew 26:40-41
Then He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “What! Could you not watch with Me one hour?Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
Failure on Peter’s part for not praying,did not enable him to have strength he needed to defend Jesus and he fell into temptation by denying Him three times. God gives special impartations to us at night but it is more easy for us to fall into trials and temptations in life, if we do not respond in obedience to seek God at night. Just like the disciples, we are all humans, we often value the desire of the flesh to sleep, rather than the desire of the spirit to intercede and spend time with God
2.Warfare:-
Exodus 13:21
And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and night.
While Moses led the Israelite’s through the desert, God moved as a cloud by day, but as fire by night. God’s time of warfare is at night. The fire represents His warring side, and night time is when He will manifest this side of Himself in much greater measure.
Matthew 13:1-9
in the parable of the sower, the time the enemy plants His tares is at night. This is prophetic of how demonic influence from the second heaven, becomes much more powerful at night, and people come out to sin at this time, because the darkness of their spirits are attracted to the darkness of the demonic spirits presence, this same presence which influences them to come out and sin at this time. Like a drug their spirit is addicted to it, though they do not know it.
Lamentations 2:19
“Arise, cry out in the night,At the beginning of the watches;Pour out your heart like water before the face of the Lord.Lift your hands toward Him.For the life of your young children,Who faint from hunger at the head of every street.”
3.Breakthrough:-
Genesis 32:22-31
Jacob wrestling with God is a prophetic picture of prayer, shows the necessity of persistence in prayer. One of the aspects of persistence is seeking God at night. it is at night when we get hold of our breakthroughs Just like Jacob, in the spiritual realm.
Conclusion:-
There is a special blessing when God sees us staying up to pray at night. One of the reasons there is more sin and demonic influence at night, is because most people are already done praying. While you are praying, God moves in the geographic areas near you. When we pray and worship at night as watchmen, the devil loses a lot of power to influence people to sin at night, and as a result of our faithfulness, there are special blessings to those who will intercede at night.
Matthew 6:6 But you, when you pray, go into your room,and when you have shut your door,pray to your Father who is in the secret place;and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
