God Has already named you.

.

Most cultures around the world, children are named after their grandparents, Parents, seasons or conditions present at the time of birth. We find that some names are associated with pain, animals, bad habits and along the way some children end up adapting the real meaning of that name when they grow up. That sound’s strange but as believers we must know, there is power in naming our children.
For instance, a biblical name could record some aspects of a person’s birth. Moses was given his name because his mother drew him out of a river  Exodus 2:10, And the child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. So she called his name Moses, saying, “Because I drew him out of the water.”his name literally means “to draw out”. Sometimes naming of children in the bible expressed parents’ reaction to the birth of their child. Examples include Isaac Genesis 21:6 And Sarah said, “God has made me laugh, and all who hear will laugh with me.” which means “laughter”, and Abimelech Judges 8:31 And his concubine who was in Shechem also bore him a son, whose name he called Abimelech. which means “my father is king.” Am not yet married but with this knowledge, am well prepared to name my children when God blesses the fruit of my womb at the right time. In Genesis 2:19-20 Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name. So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him.,Genesis 3:20  And Adam called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living why does God empower Adam to name His wife and all the animals in the garden?? Simple He had given him power and dominion to do so.
We all have power and dominion to call forth what we want to see in our lives. As a believer you can’t name your child fear, terror, pain, drunkard, poverty or drought just because it’s a duty you must comply with, to please people but contradicts God’s word. I know some of us have names which have weird meanings but our names can be changed by knowing our real identity in Christ, as we can hardly do anything about it. In 1 chronicles 4:9-10 Now Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, “Because I bore him in pain.”And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested.  From a life of hardships Jabez’s mother decided to call him PAIN. As a child, he did not have any choice but to adapt to that name. When he grew up, he finally understood the meaning of His name and cried out to God to change His circumstances, even though his name meant pain. God is more than willing to change your situation as long as, you are willing to believe in His ability in doing so .Some people find themselves in circumstances that are beyond their control but according to Jabez predicament, nothing deemed impossible to God.
In God’s word there were instances where names were changed, this was used to establish authority over another, or to indicate a new beginning or new direction in a person’s life. For instance, Pharaoh changed Joseph’s name to Zephenath-paneah when Joseph entered his service Genesis 41:45 And Pharaoh called Joseph’s name Zaphnath-Paaneah. And he gave him as a wife Asenath, the daughter of Poti-Pherah priest of On. So Joseph went out over all the land of Egypt. another Pharaoh changed the name of the Jewish king Eliakim’s name to Jehoiakim 2 Kings 23:34Then Pharaoh Necho made Eliakim the son of Josiah king in place of his father Josiah, and changed his name to Jehoiakim. And Pharaoh took Jehoahaz and went to Egypt, and he died there. While in Babylonian captivity, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah were forced to change their names to Belteshazzar, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego Daniel 1:6-7 Now from among those of the sons of Judah were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. To them the chief of the eunuchs gave names: he gave Daniel the name Belteshazzar; to Hananiah, Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abed-Nego.Abram to Abraham (a Father of many Nations)Genesis 17:5No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you a father of many nations . Cephas to Peter Mark 3:16 and some would say Saul to Paul Acts 13:9. Here’s the catch :– Change of names were often used to express the nature and function of a person. They were used to indicate a person’s purpose in the world.
Looking at the Naming of Jesus, His name was given directly from God Himself Matthew 1:20-21 But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.”The name “Jesus” literally means “the Lord saves.”It does not matter how people have named you, what matters is who God call’s you to be. God has called us in his word as victorious, more than conquers, beautiful, bold, his children and a royal priesthood. You might not have the ability to change your current name but you have the power and authority to call yourself the way God calls you.

2 Corinthians 4:6.

For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

As children of God our greatest goal in life should be to resemble our heavenly Father. Like father like son
