The Waves Within

.
While growing up, my little cousin who is now all grown up, used to be totally terrified of dolls. Babysitting him was never a big deal .Whenever he attempted to nag us by not eating his food; we knew which buttons to press. All we did was scare him off with a doll and he would finish up his food as fast as possible. Being young kids, we never knew it was real torture trying to scare him with a doll to eat his food even though it worked well to our benefit. Looking back it looks very funny, but in real sense his ability not to comprehend a doll was just a toy to play with and not harm him, never enjoyed the fun kids have while playing with dolls. Many times people walk in the fear of the unknown just like my cousin, because of lack of knowledge of who they really are as children of God.
In Mark 4:35-41 Jesus instructed His disciples to cross over to the other side to continue with God’s work of preaching the gospel. Along the way there was a great windstorm, which caused great terror among the disciples while Jesus slept. According to their response to Jesus, they knew they were perishing but they never understood they had the protector within their midst. In the previous chapters of the book of Mark, Jesus had performed many miracles in their presence but their lack of faith made them think they will perish in the storm. Jesus knew they would get to the other side, but the disciples did not have faith in getting to the other side because of a mere storm. God allows storms in our lives not to destroy us but to teach us on how to trust him. Real storms that will take you down are not the ones which are out there but the ones which are within.

What are you cultivating in your heart and mind??Is it Fear, doubt or anxiety which are negative emotions that make storms in life unbearable.

The enemy knows which buttons to press when we walk in ignorance towards God’s word. Whenever there are storms on the outside, he is busy trying to feed your mind and heart with all negative emotions if you allow Him to.

Honey! If you can calm the waves within, you can conquer the waves outside.

We may not know the future, but we can have rest that God knows our future. God is greater.  He gives us the power to live courageously, boldly, fearlessly in this life when many things that surround us, would tell us to be afraid.

How do we make unnecessary waves:-

  • Through the words we speak on a daily basis :-Your life is either created or destroyed by your own  words
  • Our approach:-How do you approach your daily affairs? Do you wake up in the morning and start complaining of how boring the day is, than thanking God for the gift of life?
  • Wrong voices:-What are you meditating on? Are you busy meditating on what you heard in the news about terror and you are so scared to go to restaurants because you think you might be in danger of terrorists? You need the right information to make good decisions which is the word of God.
  • Our expectations:- You need to learn how to manage your own energy and expect storms along the way.

Controlling the waves within often comes down to a choice:

Choosing not to allow fear and anxiety to control your life.
Choosing to guard your heart.
Choosing to focus your mind on what is truth in the midst of uncertain times.
All of that stuff in your mind?  Give it to God.  Replace those fearful thoughts with His words of truth. He knows what concerns you, He’s got you covered.

Scriptures to meditate on and kick-out fear from your life:-
