Unveiled Truth

.

Have you ever been a spectator??? Not in a bad way but out of genuine exposure. Let me make it simple to elaborate my point.Maybe you traveled to a different city and what you saw, was totally new and you were a spectator, at everything that was happening in that place!!! I believe most of us, have had a scenario where we were spectators but trust me, it was an exposure to something new and your mind had to be in that state. In my earlier days as a young believer, Jesus was my Lord, I loved him, I did read some scriptures for encouragement but I never knew anything about spiritual growth.
After a stint of backsliding and recommitting my life back to Christ, I had a deep desire to know God. So at my home church, I made a choice to attend Friday night encounters. These services are usually different from Sunday services; they are more centered on prayer. The first day I attended these meetings!!! Trust me, I was a spectator. I simply prayed for everything i knew well of and within 10 minutes, I was done. That for me back then, was real prayer and I had such a loooooong night .Other brethren were busy praying in tongues and I was like, what on earth are they saying ?? and making matters more interesting, I never understood where they got the strength to pray that  long. So the whole night for me, I was a professional spectator, just looking and analyzing. When I got home the following morning, my mind had a lot of questions, from how does God fill people with the Holy Spirit, to how He speaks to people and also how to speak in tongues.
The desire in me to know how God functions, was so strong in me and I purposed to be attending the meetings more frequently. Along the way, God ordered my steps and I joined my current department, which I will attest was a pillar to my Spiritual growth. I learn’t how to pray and before I knew it, I was filled with the Holy Spirit and the gift of speaking in tongues. In this particular post, I will focus on the importance of speaking in tongues and why as believers, we need to receive this gift and walk in revelation on how to manifest it. In the book of Joel 2:28-29 “And it shall come to pass afterward. That I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your old men shall dream dreams, Your young men shall see visions. And also on my menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days. This was a promise, of how God would pour His Spirit unto all flesh and the promise was eventually fulfilled in the New Testament.

Truth Unveiled:-

1. So, is speaking in tongues biblical? Yes! it is indeed.

Jesus promised His disciples, He will send them a helper Holy Spirit John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever & John 14:26. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. After His death ,resurrection and later on ascending to heaven  we learn in Acts 2:1-4. When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.  Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. They all assembled in one place and they never knew how the Holy Spirit would come, all they did was pray and expect. When the Holy Spirit came they all spoke in tongues.

2. What is the Importance of speaking in tongues??

One thing we need to know is,we don’t do something for the sake of doing it. Whatever we do must have a purpose behind it. The Holy Spirit gives us the gifts of Grace for a divine purpose. In 1 Corinthians 14:2-4. For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men. He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.
Romans 8:26-27 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.Speaking in tongues enables us to communicate supernaturally with God. One speaks mysteries to God, things that his mind does not understand.Let’s look at this perspective:-If you are discouraged, when you pray in the knowledge you will focus on the situation you are currently going through but when you speak in tongues your spirit will not focus on that but on something else which is a priority to God. Like interceding for your nation, your generation, your assignment, a sick person or your family.

3. How does speaking in tongues help us ?

Your Spiritual Muscle is built supernaturally:-When you are running short of energy and spiritual power, the Holy Spirit refuels us. This only happens, when there is a link between him and us which is speaking in tongues.

4. Who qualifies for this Gift?

a)Those who have received Jesus Christ as their lord and savior.
b) All believers who are eager to receive the gift.
Acts 2:37-39 37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?”Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”

5. Is it hard to receive the gift?? Absolutely Not.

Have you asked?? A gift is given by the generosity of the giver. Speaking in tongues is not by works but it is based on Grace. We must ask and receive the Holy Spirit with childlike faith.
Luke 11:11-13 If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!

1 Corinthians 14:2.

For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.
